Lee Roy Selmon's life is a combination of football scholarship, family work as well as community involvement. First family, he's the youngest of the nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They grew up on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. Second football he was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. During his three years as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon obtained his master's degree in educational studies. Fourth year of college Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. After college, he moved to Tampa and played nine seasons for the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro three times. After that, he began his career. In 1988, as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa and worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's top 10 young males. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He was captain of his college team in the year 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
