April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is among the few female beach volleyball players who have done so. She will be competing in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman, who is a first time Olympian. Ross hopes to win more than her first Olympic medal. Since she's 39 years old she could have her last shot. But she's convinced that the top awards are within reach. Ross stated to NBC Boston that if they play their best, and even play well and they are able to play well, the team could win a gold medal. In addition, I'm planning put my faith in a touch of good luck. Ross born in 1982 and lived within Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started competing in athletics at Newport Harbor High School. Ross went on to play in many activities at Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler she played basketball, indoor volleyball as well as running track. While she did well at indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her skills were above average. Based on her bio, she played a middle blocker and an outside hitting volleyball player during her senior year at high school. To honor her achievements she was awarded the Gatorade Award for the National Player of 1999. Additionally, in 2000, she was named Orange County Athlete of the Yr for volleyball. Ross is working with Klineman from 2017 but her beach game had been established long before this. The American has been a major winner in events twice, with various partners. The other has become an iconic player in the volleyball world. In the period 2007 to 2013 she teamed together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the world circuit, winning a 2009 world title together. At the 2012 Olympic Games, they were awarded a gold medal. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team as well as Kerri Jennings won the gold. As fate would have it Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner as May-Treanor stepped down. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a college athlete with the Trojans of USC prior to her pro career. She was a player in high school and in years prior to hitting the beach as a professional. She had a great run during her time in the NCAA tournament. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year, and was also an All-American. She also helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. In her sophomore year, she was devastated by a personal setback but managed to be a second All-American. The last two years in the Trojans team the team was led to victory by winning the national title in consecutive years. She was a great volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross had been an international studies student at USC. Margie Ross did not get to see Ross achieve beach volleyball's top levels. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001 when Ross was an USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed.
