Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was born and raised in Barcelona. Her eclectic music style has earned her the label of "atypical pop star". When she was of 13, she fell love with Spanish folk music. She then studied musicology at the Catalonia College of Music. She was also seen at weddings and music bars. Blending flamenco and hip hop and pop music the album produced "Malamente" (single) and "Pienso in tu Mira" (single). Both songs became hugely popular and were praised by critics across the world. 11) Winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and a place in Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the climb of Rosalia into the world music scene. Rosalia is a musician who explored urbano music with her 2019 releases "Con Altura" and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", has achieved worldwide success. Her third studio album Motomami (2022) brought reggaeton an experimental new sound, moving away from the flamenco-inspired style. With singles "La Fama," and "Saoko" the album was a big success across the globe and was named the best-reviewed album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one singles from her home country throughout her career. This is the most she has ever achieved for an artist from the country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year awards), four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been presented to Rosalia. She also received two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard has awarded her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the sound of mainstream music by bringing flamenco to pop"[18[18]. She is also the first Spanish-singing artist to be nominated at the Grammys for Best New Artist. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Born into a family of no artistic experience She is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who manages a small family business focused on metalwork. Jose Manuel Vila, her father was born in Cudillero. They split in 2019. Her elder sister, Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative director. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts from an early age, particularly following her discovery of the discography of Camaron de la Isla. She began her musical training in Taller de Musics. She attended a six year program in the academy. She began at the Raval school, but later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. She also independently worked as an independent singer at weddings, as well as in musical bars where she was paid "a just over 80 euros or for dinner". [26] During that time, Rosalia met many underground Spanish artists that would later succeed such as La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento.
